A+ A A-

hvh_research_programHVH is excited to announce that Jill Allison PhD is our new HVH Research coordinator. As you may be aware, our goal in Haiti is sustainability. Our short-term medical teams allow us to teach Haitians and provide a learning opportunity for medical students and residents which works well in the team setting. However, increasingly HVH has individuals interested in volunteering for a longer period of time.

For placements of 1-6 months in duration, Jill will oversee the projects that our volunteers will participate in, based on HVH needs and the skills and interests of the individuals.

Jill Allison starting volunteering with HVH in 2008. She trained as a nurse and spent time working with her husband in Nepal. She has a PhD in Anthropology, working on issues of women's health and social justice. Jill spent one month in BML in January 2011 and assisted with the development of the Women’s Health program. We felt she would be an appropriate fit as Director of Research at HVH.

We feel that it is important that there are clear and specific guidelines for any students undertaking research or longer term projects. Jill will be mentoring all students, helping them to develop an appropriate project. We are excited to have her take on this vital role!

** for special projects, research or internships – please complete the research questionnaire along with your application. (This can be found under More Volunteer Info).  You must have a project or research idea in mind before arriving in Haiti. Jill, our research coordinator, can assist interested individuals but the onus is on the individual to create their topic with HVH guidance to ensure the need and relevance of the topic.
